About John W. Boushka

I am Bill Boushka. ("Bill" is the nickname for John William)

I am the author of three books in a series called "Do Ask, Do Tell" They are "A Gay Conservative Lashes Back" (1997-2000); "When Liberty Is Stressed" (2002); "Speech Is a Fundamental Right; Being Listened to Is a Privilege" (2014)
This site provides information on how to find and purchase the books. (Site is still in development or 'beta test'. -4)

My books deal with current issues and "connect the dots"

My "activism" started in the 1990s with trying to end the "don't ask don't tell" policy and tended to expand over the years.
The "don't ask don't tell" policy created an unusual issue in the way it interacted with personal privacy in situations of forced intimacy and group social cohesion.

Books I've written

There are three "do ask do tell" books and one "our fundamental rights" book.
Do Ask Do Tell, A Gay Conservative Lashes Back This book (1997, 2000) my own history with the "don't ask don't tell" policy for gays in the military starting with my own college expulsion in 1961, and then my own unusual military service. The book deals with literal definitions of individual rights balanced to common good and need to share sacrifices sometimes (as with the past military draft). It does not filter the individual through the idea of belonging to a particular (perhaps marginalized) group.
Do Ask Do Tell: When Liberty Is Stressed This book (2002) is a collection of 10 essays on various liberty-related topics, including the response to terrorism, and a proposal for a Bill of Rights 2, which seems pertinent given the recent rulings from SCOTUS
Do Ask Do Tell: Speech Is a Fundamental Right, Being Listened to Is a Privilege This book (2014) continues the discussion for the first two in the Internet age, with a lot of consideration of not just free speech and freedom of reach. It proposes an individualistic approach to the challenge of fitting in, if you are different, without the collectivism of today's far Left. The book has a "fiction" section, with a story based on my own military basic training in 1968, plus two "road trip" stories meant to be read in parallel
Our Fundamental Rights This booklet (1998) proposes a new structure for understanding fundamental rights. This might be more interesting now given recent rulings on what that concept means from SCOTUS
Screenplay scripts are being written based on the books and I have done one pitchfest
I also have music composition projects open (details forthcoming)
Books are available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I am working on bookstore availability with the publisher. Any bookstore or chain that would like to work with me directly should contact me directly as indicated below. (Preferred Email address may change soon.)
